Tenchu's Thoughts: Trump is Reviving the War on Drugs! So let me get this straight. Trump wants to impose a tariff on all goods coming across both the Mexican and Canadian borders to the tune of 25%, and a tariff on all goods coming from China to the tune of an additional 10% on top of what already exists. And his goal is to get those countries to reduce the supply of fentanyl coming into America? Amazing. Trump is literally bringing back the War on Drugs. Maybe he forgot why the original War on Drugs was a failure. As long as there is demand, suppliers will always find ways to meet the demand. Or maybe his ultimatum to Canada, Mexico, and China is just his usual shittalking. One can never tell given how Trump and the MAGA crowd can't be trusted to keep their word. In any case, Trump wants to risk higher inflation, higher prices for consumer goods (think Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Amazon, and every other retail store outlet that sells goods that were "Made in China"), and a drastic slowdown in our consumer-driven economy, just because he thinks other countries can fight the War on Drugs for us. Tenchusatsu P.S. - The one silver lining is that markets right now don't seem to be that spooked. I guess even Mr. Market doesn't want to take Trump at his word.
