Schopenhauer. The limitation on shorting stocks under a certain price is determined by each broker, not by the SEC. They will accept shorting (if they have shares to loan) if you have with them a collateral that guarantee the broker will not end up holding the back. Convertible financial instruments are the best guarantees. This is called "shorting against the block", since in essence, the shorter "freezes" his position. The only problem with floorless convertibles is that they freeze out the existing stock holders while their shorting manipulates the stock to lower prices where they can convert for much more stock. This has happened in the following few stocks all of which are under $5 and all have short positions: CTYSC, CHTL, HDTV, EXSO, RMIL (supposedly such a high short position that people there got organized to try and squeeze the shorts, to no avail). Zeev PS you can check short positions at: viwes.com note that BB stock are not available. So, EXSO which was delisted in October or so, shows the short only to that date. RMIL and HDTV are not shown either. You should also know that these short positions are always as of the 10th of the month, and many manipulator do not want to show their hand so they cover just before the 10th and short back into the rally their covering creates after the 10th. Just because you are paranoid, it does not mean that THEY are not following you <VBG>.
