Dan, The rats were given an injection and I believe that the mg/kg number refers to the concentration of Targretin in the aqueous solution which contained PEG and carboxymethyl cellulose. This solution was administered p.o. at 5ml/kg of body weight. Thus the way I read the Materials & Methods, the 100mg/kg solution injected had 0.01% Targretin, which would mean that a 5 ml injection would have 500 ug of Targretin. Thus, an 80 kg adult human would get about 40 mg of Targretin, if my assumptions and calculations are correct. For clinicals targeting cancer, I think that Targretin is being tested at various concentrations, which can be as high as 600 mg.
