Doug, IMO, the Ontrak acquisition saved LRCX's butt! Not so much for the Company ... but getting Mr. Bagley. The new management is (IMO) much better prepared to take advantage of the coming boom in capital spending for semiconductor manufacturing. Obviously, AMAT will be the primary beneficiary of the transition to 300mm ... but LRCX should do very well too ... and, if Bagley succeeds in improving margins, LRCX stock should outperform AMAT over the next few years (on a percentage basis).
Regards, Bill

Doug,
I just found a link to the Lam CMP technology. The site is the best for actually seeing the benefits of CMP. You sound very bearish on the Lam program. Could you elaborate. I would like to buy into this technology. All of the numbers look impressive. What are the risks with Lam?
