How about Free cars from the oil company, to encourage consumption of gas. Free appliance from the utility company? 50% discount for every purchase you made with credit cards, so that the bank can accumulate more interest ?
The free PCs is a no brain strategy, the BOM of PCs is much higher than that of cellular phones or I-phones. Even with free phones, the phone companies still can't attract too many subscribers, because the hardware payment is one time payment, while the monthly service charge is forever, and currently is way too high, and consumers know that.

I like the ideas of free PCs, free cars, free houses, free refrigraetors, free TVs, free everything,
then it will be a wonderful world. But in the real world, it will never happen !!!!!

Mohan,

Besides free PCs, I have another idea of free money. How about short CPQ when the DEC deal was announced, and use the money from short of CPQ to buy DELL when the earning was announced. Now, it is time to short DELL big time and buy CPQ.
So, you just use free money to make money. You play two balls with one hand!!! Is this a smart idea ?????????????
