Sure I am! I am most enthused about TLAB's all-optical team. But that is a ways off into the future.

TLAB's digital cross-connects will be replaced by optical cross-connects (OXC) in the future so they will need to be up to speed. That's what Paul Green's team will do for TLAB.

TLAB wouldn't be listed in my favorites if I didn't like them. Who doesn't like TLAB? (Well, maybe CHIP doesn't).

Mike, the way Gilder's letter works is that the subscriber gets the newsletter, then the Forbes ASAP polishes it so that it has slightly less offputting"technical"language for a month or so then the gist is published in the Forbes ASAP supplement - a separate magazine every quarter. Now I am a Gilder fan and am puzzled. Yes he did remove CIEN from his list of "Ascendant technology companies" on Feb 8 but the puzzle is that as I understand the situation at LU - the LU "product" is still in the lab and will not be available in the real world (the marketplace) until the end of this calendar year, i.e. the LU press release described VAPORWARE while Ciena will have a 40 in the market within a month. Moreover as you know I (almost alone) try to follow Nortel and I know of no rpt no product from NT competitive to the 40 Ciena will put put shortly. Hence something is strange in this. Maybe Gilder is so busy lately finishing his book that he let someone on the staff of the newsletter do the "homework" on the Ciena vs Lucent technological situation and the result was flawed - a polite way of saying it came out wrong. To best of my knowledge Ciena will be well ahead of everyone within a month. Nothing comparable until the end of the year. Sure Gilder is a FUTURIST so maybe he was looking ahead to sometime during the next rpt next calendar year. If you are going to be checking out the Lucent situation, start with LU press release which describes an experiment in the lab IMO. Ciena will be selling in the market. LU's press release policy in this case reminds me a bit of MSFT's tactics - use vaporware to dampen potential sales of a competitor. Good luck with your research into facts here. Needs to be done and since you just volunteered GREAT. Respect. Chaz
