unclear that China ever needs battle-hardening, for China rarely commits troops, and even if when did so, aims for limited objectives, won such, and pulled back, or in case of longer durations, pulled back and bid for time, whereas Russia tended to bid up territory even if for a moment and is generally less patient

both teams have lasted a long time, in slightly different ways
