I remem old man stopping along the road during regular 90 mile trips to work..on the old 2 lane highways,,which had curbs... having we kids spotting and picking up 2c pop bottles and scoring big if we found a quart bottle...5c!! he was driving an early VW 30 plus mpg...also aluminum beer cans for 2c each....sometimes all would pay for the trip....w/o counting wear and tear on the brakes..lol..we did get our aerobic exercise though...no fatties in our fam ps, on long trips, he'd have us lift up the hose to drain it...after he'd shut off the pump... never had a carb needing cleaned out...not even on my 1966 4.2 L E type Jaguar with 3 carbs
