I am guessing you don't follow Europe very closely. Much of Europe is following exactly the same trajectory we did, but a decade or two behind. My wife is from Germany. From what her relatives tell her, the same policies and arguments have been translated into German and have been trickling into the public sphere.

They aren't ahead. They are behind, but doing their best to catch up.
