I can't imagine how the issue could have even come up at the time. It isn't like abortions were unknown at the time. Lots of common activities didn't make it into the Constitution. It wasn't an omnibus spending bill.

From our science knowledge of biology we know today that all living human's life started at the moment of conception. In utero or petri. That human life will continue until some event causes it to die. Once it is implanted into the womb it will become a child capable of living sans mothers gestation. But natural selection events may kill it. But deliberate aborting is killing a human life. There are people who cannot figure out the truth, some who have wondering minds in word fog. Their truth is informed by those they believe never lie. So help them GOD.
