Benhamou! Chambers ain't interested in making toilet seats!

3Com CEO Eric Benhamou says his company competes with Cisco by entering areas where Cisco has little interest--remote access, the retail shelves, and so on (see "3Com-ing to Your Home"). Similarly, new semiconductor developments have enabled chip makers to place more networking technology on silicon, lowering switching costs, increasing speed, and, some analysts say, creating problems for Cisco in a market it thought it had won (see "Chipping Away at the Old Block").
