Well the last two days of trading weren’t all that special. The indices were down. At the end of the year, the S&P Biotech Index was in the black for the year (+$980), which was OK, though tiny compared to a $100k invested in the NASDAQ Composite (yielding +$27k).
Only KATHLEEN managed to make money in the last two days of the year (thanks to positions in the second, third, and fourth place stocks for those days), everyone else in the red.
Now in terms of the portfolio final rankings, all of them from 1st to 17th were unchanged from the end of last week.
Which means the TOMATO held on to their first place position, returning +$47k. They were joined by five other portfolios that made money for the year: BLADERUNNER (+$33k), ALONER (+$31k), BULBAMAN (+$28k), ERIKOTTO (+$23k), and TRACE I11 (+$17k), showing that with luck or foresight you can make a decent return investing in Biotech. Most of the fourth quarter was disappointing, as when it started the best portfolio was returning +$90k, and more than half contestant portfolios were in the black.
It’s been an interesting run. I hope that the contestants enjoyed reading the interim status reports and associated discussions as much as we did writing them.
