Opened up and took a capsule of Doctor's Best Bromelain raw today.

No stinging or redness as with the NOW brand. I'm convinced those were allergic reactions to the extra inactive ingredients.

Although they were pretty "active" for inactive ingredients. :)

Edit: However, I can detect a mild tingling on the tip of my tongue from the bromelain which is normal in my experience.
