In Baghdad, talks between the U.N.'s Secretary-General, Kofi Annan,
and Iraqi officials have broken off for the night. They'll resume in the
morning. A U.N. spokesman refused to say how they're going, but Annan
called the morning session ''very constructive.'' Annan is scheduled to
meet with Saddam Hussein tomorrow

The White House says it's going ahead with plans for war ''without
regard'' for Annan's efforts. There was another strategy session...
outside, several hundred demonstrators protested. There were a few
arrests.
