I paid $160/month for rent. My major hobbies were bicycling, jogging, and white water rafting. Occasionally skiing on weekdays, using a discount coupon from a local supermarket. (Not sure why they offered discount ski passes, other than to draw in shoppers.)

And friends of mine sang a cappella music, so I got to hear them practice and attended a few of their concerts.

Served as an unpaid usher for the Nutcracker Suite in SF, guiding flocks of school children into the correct aisle.

Not very expensive.

Went to a bunch of rock concerts in Berkeley and SF, including the US Festival in Southern California in 1982.

$40 for twenty bands in three days, Got up to 113 degrees in the shade, but it was a dry heat, and they made sure that water was plentiful, including showers. Thank you Steve Wozniak, Apple cofounder.
