John, I think that we must do whatever it takes to remove Saddam from power. I think that half-measures like the embargo simply don't work. And with due respect to Lech Walesa, communism in Poland was not eliminated by embargoes -- it was eliminated because the Soviets were going broke and were finally beginning to understand that communism is an unworkable economic system.

Either we go in and eliminate Saddam (the world will get over this) or we should gracefully back down. Saddam is a menace to whatever fragile stability the region still enjoys.
