Rod>>Reseller, you are claiming a 1% out-of-box failure rate but you have the same information gap as Iomega in that regard: you are relying on returned merchandise or complaint reports coming in once they leave your premises. In fact, the number of problem drives (including those which have intermittent problems) is almost certainly much higher and I would hasten to add that we're talking about the entire system here: drives plus cartridges. So, your observations are in line with those being reported by Iomega, but they don't tell the whole story as I'm sure you'll agree.<<

Rod, when you say out-of-box ( a term used in the trade to identify product right out of the box ) you are implying that the product was dead on arrival ( DOA )

I was very explicit about what I said but let me explain further.
I had 2 defective drives one drive was DOA the other was an ATAPI drive that was sold and than returned as defective. For all I know the customer could have dropped it or whatever ?

We are a small store front computer store and part of our being is service, all warranty work on all products that we sell are handled thru us. In fact all OEM drives must be taken back to the place of purchase for this type of work. I am not aware of any drives that I've sold having intermittent problems.

I can't speak for Iomega but can only relay my own experiences.

FWIW

Reseller

re:Lawyers/COD,

Rod, I am claiming it has a lower failure rate at the OEM level than hard drives and even floppies when they where this new. End users can ruin anything. One article pointed out that IOM is just paying the price for selling so many drives. Even >1% of 12 million is alot of failures but % wise thats not bad.As far as these lawsuits, am I the only one who is sick and tired of adults always looking for someone else to blame when they make a wrong decision. Like that old woman who sued McDonalds when she sat a hot cup of coffee in her lap while riding in her sons (standard) sports car. Personally I want to sue someone when my coffee isn't hot.
BTW, I feel the same way about lawyers as I do auto mechanics and doctors ( SR excluded ) the bad ones are bad and the good ones are hard to find, but good to have. If I'm not mistaken there are a couple of lawyers signatures on the Declaration of Independence ?

P.S. Really just posting to stay "grandfathered".
