Back in the 1970's Acid Rain being generated in Britain and drifting over Europe was a problem. A big problem I think. It was from all the coal burning emissions.

Good progress has been made on that front.

UK: acid rain precursor emissions 1990-2022 | Statista

<<Total acid rain precursor emissions in the United Kingdom amounted to 1.5 million metric tons of sulfur dioxide equivalent in 2022. Acid rain precursor emissions in the UK have fallen by about 80 percent compared since 1990.Atmospheric pollutants such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides mix with water vapor in the air, which are then converted to sulfuric and nitric acids, respectively. These acids make the rain acidic. When these solutions fall to the earth, they can increase the acidity levels of soils and water bodies. statista.com>>

Not so much of a SO2 generator these days.
