Paul, If I remember correctly, on Monday and Tuesday Oct 27 and 28 , 1997, many were left out because the servers that people attach to when they visit their web accounts were overloaded...additionally so werre the 800 numbers... it was the institutional investor who had the advantage on those days (or disadvantage, depending on how one interprets what happened in hindsight) Paulo

Paul: regarding computer trading-- the game is so rigged against the individual investor that I have all of my IRA in the little companies that own the program trading computers and make money on volatility. It's a diversified portfolio, after all, they trade stocks and bonds in every sector. -ggg- they're making obscene profits, and in any 1-5-10-25 year span of time the computer-trading brokerages handily outperform the S&P. They're like snails, in time of trouble they get their own money out first, collect obscene profits on margin calls, collect obscene profits shorting stocks as they go down, short each other's stock so the public will think they are suffering, and hide in their shells until it's safe to come out again. Most of them have combined their operations with junk bond offerings and credit-card operations to enhance profitability. Billions of dollars won't be "lost", just buy some brokerage stock and some will show up in your account -ggg-
