Reseller,

I own a PP zip drive and a jaz drive. Never ANY kind of problem in the last two years.

For those that think hard drives are so reliable, I recently had an OEM 2.5 Gb Quantum hard drive simply quit during an S.I. reading session. Boy did that make me happy!!! Fortunately, I had all my really important files backed up on either zip disks or jaz disks. Midwest Micro (great place to buy a new PC...no sales tax, NO proprietary components, free technical support calls, very helpful and very competitive pricing) simply sent me a new Quantum 2.5 Gb fireball hard drive without giving me a hard time. Instead of waiting for the replacement HD to arrive, I went out and bought a 5.1 Gb Western Digital hard drive and took three days to reinstall all my software and files. Have you ever tried to reinstall software and remember all your personal "preference" settings for software, yuk!!! I later sold the replacement drive to a friend.

Since I was determined to not go through that again, I partitioned the new 5.1 Gb hard drive so that the "C" partition is only 1 Gb (enough for all the software/files I use on a regular basis). You ask why create an only 1 Gb "C" partition? I backed up the entire "C" partition to a jaz disk using a new software called Drive Image marketed by Powerquest Corporation (the one that markets Partition Magic). I alternate two jaz disks for this and do a backup every two weeks or so. If this hard drive fails, I can be up and running again in about one hour after installation of a new HD...not three days. Just thought I would relay this to the thread.

By the way, the friend who bought my replacement HD bought two PP zip drives for his business and installed an internal SCSI zip drive in his home machine (really fast) over the last 1 1/2 years. Not one single problem over 1 1/2 years. A few days ago he acquired another fairly slow machine, took it to a "storefront" computer store here and had it upgraded for use in his business. He had them install my replacement 2.5 Gb Quantum drive and, while he was at it, had those guys install an internal ATAPI zip drive (this one is also really fast). My friend now has four zip drives and is very pleased with all of his zip drive's performance and reliability.

Reseller, when installing the new ATAPI zip drive, they told him they had to go to the Iomega web site and download an OLDER set of drivers in order to get the new ATAPI zip drive to work. Have you ever heard of this?
