I remember when Qualcomm was rumored to have an interest in buying out Intel. That wasn't too long ago.

Meanwhile, I think the Intel BOD pushed Pat Gelsinger out because they want to spin off the fabs like AMD did 16-17 years ago. That way, Intel becomes a more attractive target for acquisition.

Just wild speculation on my part, of course, but it seems to fit the circumstances.

Either way, without Gelsinger Intel is screwed. Not that Intel wasn't screwed even with him at the helm, but now with his ouster all doubt has been removed.
