In the higher latitudes, the angle of the Sun is rarely in the same place. Makes sense to have a lot of small cells pointing in all directions. Left outside, energy would be picked up while there is daylight. There will always be some cells pointing in the right direction. The problem in a car outside in higher latitudes is not sunlight damage, it's water penetration.

The car is travelling a small percentage of the time. Looks like a possible solution if it works.

This graph indicates 20 to 30 mph is optimum for Electric Vehicles. That was regarded as fast, real fast, once upon a time.
