RE: Captain Kirk and his buy outs

Big Dog, several months ago, i placed Captain James T. Kirk on my list of "people whose post have no basis in reality." At that time, he was saying that Lucent (LU) was going to buy Ascend (ASND) for $40 per share. I don't know what goes on behind closed doors in the business world, but i do make a stop each morning at the home of an official at
Ascend. I talk to him personally almost every Thursday evening, at which time he not only makes full payment for all the papers that i delivered to him that week and also rewards my consistent hard work with a little tip.

On one of my Thursday visits, i specifically asked about the possibility that Ascend might be bought/merge: the answer was that the chance of that was slightly less than 0%. (quick check of recent SEC filings will show that my customer recently sold a small portion
of his ASND stock ($1.6 million worth) at about $32 per share. Well below the buy out price predicted by Kirk.)

Note: I have no position in ASND and have no opinion on the stock or the company.

Could Kirk know about a deal in the oil patch that you don't? My guess is that the chance of that is slightly less than 0%.

Thank you letting us know about the rig for sale. Looks like a good deal to me, but i have slightly less than $75 million cash on hand at this time. Would they consider $99 down and $99 per month for the next 758 thousand months?<g>

BTW, thank you for the quick and informative reply to my email question.

Big Dog,
Maybe I'm missing something here but,,
After 4 years I would show a profit of 10.6 million USD. Instead of doing this couldn't I just roll-over my current 75 million CD for another 4 years? After 4 years I would have a 12 million USD profit (not compounded cause I would probably have to buy a car or something). This seems a little less risky.

Buying the rig would only be wise if a person thought it would appreciate?
