I'm curious to know what companies will be the major beneficiaries of the remediation process. Are Y2K compliant embedded chip makers and/or equipment manufacturers going to reap any windfall profits?

Case in point: a database consultant working for a "re-engineering" firm says they are replacing non-compliant databases with "vanilla" Oracle databases, knowing that complete reconfiguration will not be possible before the deadline.
