BC, So you think this is a good thing? Selling US citizenship? That's actually a good question for once. However, it's not a new question. It was asked over and over again, especially during the original debates revolving around the passage of the 14th amendment. Without going into too much detail, I find the following essay from the Cato Institute to be well-written: Is Birthright Citizenship Good for America? (Cato Institute PDF) I'll just mention a few things: 1) Like I told Bill, if you want to get rid of birthright citizenship, do it the right way. Amend the Constitution. Don't go redefining words and claim that the 14th amendment doesn't really mean what it means. (And before you do your usual whataboutisms, BC, know that I recognize that "redefining words" has been a left-wing tactic for decades now. Doesn't make it any less destructive to our constitutional democracy.) 2) As the Cato essay states, just because "no one else" has birthright citizenship doesn't mean we shouldn't either. "No one else" has the 1st and 2nd amendments, either. Should we repeal those just on that basis alone? Tenchusatsu
