Chris,
>I would like to enter when the stoch(8,5) is greater than 20, and not > than 80 for more than 10 dys.<

Then you could use LLV(Stoch(8,3),10)<80 to find a stochastic that breached below 80 at some point in the previous 10 days. It would also pick up a stochastic value that is presently below 80. Then add in Stoch(8,5)>20 to set the bottom value. The HHV(Stoch(8,3),10)<80 was looking to restrict values below 80 for at least 10 days, which is what if first thought you were looking for. Maybe this helps.

Craig

Chris,
Let's leave behind these earlier variants:
-Not Enter a trade if a Stochastic is above 80 within the last 10 dys? -Not Enter a trade if a Stochastic crosses 80 up, then crosses down under 80, then back up above 80 within 10dys?
-*excluding* an entry point for a stoch that's been >80 for more than 10 dys

and use your last message:
enter when the stoch(8,5) is greater than 20, and not > than 80 for more than 10 dys.

Try:
Stoch(8,5)>20 {Stoch is greater than 20} and HHV(stoch(8,5),10)<80 {never >80 in the past 10 days}

Note that this doesn't check for rising stoch or for crossing up from under 20.

Good luck!

Paul

Chris,
I may also not understand, but I think you've said you want to exclude trading when the stoch has gone to or above 80 more than once in the past 10 days.

(you said:Good trades happen when it 'just hits' the 80 line. But I want to eliminate trades that have been at, or above the 80 signal too long.)

You could use a binary to count the number of days and then reject any over 1.

Create an indicator with the following and it will tell the number of times the stoch has been at 80 or higher in the previous 10 bars.

If(Ref(Stoch(13,5),-1)>=80,1,0)+
If(Ref(Stoch(13,5),-2)>=80,1,0)+
If(Ref(Stoch(13,5),-3)>=80,1,0)+
If(Ref(Stoch(13,5),-4)>=80,1,0)+
If(Ref(Stoch(13,5),-5)>=80,1,0)+
If(Ref(Stoch(13,5),-6)>=80,1,0)+
If(Ref(Stoch(13,5),-7)>=80,1,0)+
If(Ref(Stoch(13,5),-8)>=80,1,0)+
If(Ref(Stoch(13,5),-9)>=80,1,0)+
If(Ref(Stoch(13,5),-10)>=80,1,0)

(Then use the indicator in the entry calculations.)
