JCCOM and Sharp offer two of the most recent entries in an expanding field, both of which feature Dolby sound and multiread capacities. Japan Computer & Communications, Inc. (JCCOM), has introduced the DV-3306 DVD/Karaoke Player, a desktop DVD-Video player that has built-in karaoke capability and also plays all popular CD formats. For karaoke, the player includes a dual microphone input for duets. Its built-in Digital Dolby 5.1 channel surround sound supports the latest home-theater projection systems. A digital echo feature comes standard with user-selectable volume control and front-panel key shifts. For DVD-Video use, a feature for playback of programmed selections is provided. The player's double-speed scanning technique allows rapid scanning through up to two hours of digital video content. Also included is a parental lockout capability. For consumers who don't want or need karaoke capability, JCCOM also offers the DV-3106 DVD-Video player that includes the same audio and video features as the DV-3306 (without headphone jacks). Both models come with three sets of dual-head RCA cables, an S-video cable, and a remote control unit. Controls include DVD title and menu, navigation cursor keys, and a selection switch for NTSC/ PAL/MULTISYNC, among others. The DV-S100 implements DVD, VideoCD, and audio CD playback. It also uses two new proprietary digital circuit technologies developed by Sharp to reproduce subtle video images that previously had been difficult to render clearly. The player offers full decoding of Dolby Digital audio by outputting 5.1-channel Dolby Digital sound in analog format, Dolby Pro Logic decoding, and Virtual Surround. Zoran's Vaddis decoder allows DVD content protection (CSS), program stream demultiplexing, MPEG-2 video, MPEG-1 video, Dolby Digital (AC-3) audio, MPEG audio, audio and video synchronization, Linear PCM audio, Subpicture, OSD, Letterbox, Pan-Scan, and more.
