re: black screen.

I had that problem sometimes with my Gateway monitor also. It stopped happening when I disabled the "energy saver" settings in Control Panel, you know, the ones where you can put the monitor in "sleep", "coma" or "TEDennis" modes after a certain length of inactivity.
