Masks are great at stopping large particulates getting into the lungs. Like when sanding.

Real small stuff like fine smoke particles and below, not much help.

Larger smoke particles yes...But the mask would need to be changed as they block up.

Sounds like you might be afflicted with reduced vital lung capacity.

Quality masks should not impair the breathing of a healthy adult.

Do you own a pulse oximeter?
