*make NATO less of a thread to Russia* NATO was not a threat to Russia. Putin, much like Netanyahu, can't continue without an enemy to fight. He just ran out of enemies who were pushovers. Russia needs a Marshal plan, and probably needs to be transformed into 3 or more countries. It's too big to allow another dictator to grab power there. Russia should become a set of trading neighbors who need each other.
