A statement such as this ^ shows a completely misguided understanding of storage mediums. Tape is one of the LEAST reliable storage mediums available. Tapes are subjected to stretching as the motor drags the media across the tape head.

I suppose that's why retensioning is often a good idea, but before I let your common-sense-boggling statement slip my mind (it's fading quickly) you may wish to inform those paying upwards of $40,000 for these devices that they are the LEAST, as you put it, reliable storage mediums available. Perhaps you were under the impression corporations did not store important information on mainframes, maybe that's it.
