The floppy's functionality has been/will be replaced by a variety of devices, but I think people will continue to want some sort of writable removable storage standard, and Zip is it. I agree that Iomega doesn't need to replace the floppy to remain successful--at these prices they only need very modest growth even.

I am actually somewhat concerned about the possible effect of ADSL on people's need for a standard floppy for file transfer. I think it's too early to be too worried about that, though, and it may be too expensive.
