OAKT, Microsoft Direct Show 2.0, and Creative's PC-DVD Encore 2.................

Oak Technology Introduces First Commercially Available Development
Platform for DirectShow 2.0

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 1998--

Oak's IDB Developer Provides ISVs the Ability to Develop and Test DirectShow 2.0 Applications Prior to Release of
Microsoft Windows 98 on Creative's PC-DVD Encore Hardware Platform

Oak Technology (NASDAQ:OAKT), a provider of semiconductor and software technology for DVD, today introduced the
Interactive DVD Browser Developer (IDBD(TM)), the only solution available to provide software developers the ability to
create and test DirectShow 2.0 applications on a commercially available hardware platform. With the IDBD, software
developers can create and test titles that are compliant to DirectShow 2.0 prior to the release of Windows 98 next year.
Oak's IDBD provides a full suite of DirectShow testing and development software, requiring only Creative Labs' PC-DVD
Encore hardware to make the development platform complete.
Available now directly from Oak, the IDBD will be licensed to
qualified developers. "With the IDBD, Oak has enabled software developers to write and test their applications on the
DirectShow platform today using a widely distributed commercially available platform, something no other product can do,"
stated Vince Guaglianone, marketing manager of Oak Technology's Imaging Business Unit. "The IDBD integrated with
Creative Labs' PC-DVD Encore hardware makes DirectShow application writing easy and complete for software
development houses of all sizes." The IDBD builds on Oak's Interactive DVD Browser (IDB)(TM), a complete DVD
software environment for the PC.
A fully compliant Windows subsystem providing a totally modular DirectShow filter graph
environment, the IDB supports any hardware, hybrid or complete software DVD solution. Oak's IDB software provides
legacy support for MCI and VideoCD technologies, and complies with the DVD 1.0 specification. Oak is also developing
other feature extension filters for DVD and other applications. "We fully support Oak's industry-leading efforts in accelerating
DirectShow development for DVD," said Hock Leow, vice president of the Multimedia Division at Creative Labs. "Creative's
widely deployed PC-DVD Encore and Oak's Interactive DVD Browser make this combination the ideal platform for DVD
development." For more information on Oak's DVD solutions, visit the company's web site at www.oaktech.com.
