That is interesting, Jeff. I'll go back and backtest a few charts to get a better feel for it. The transitions are easier to see of you do a Zoom=7 or Zoom=8 (Shift-7/Shift 8).

I would note on the January transition [DELL], the short ribbon compressed but never actually twisted.

Take a look at the CPQ chart, 1-day zoom=7. The short band compressed but failed to cross the long band several times, and as expected, each rally failed. The early February compress & cross gave the first true signal, but it rallied fast, so you had to act quickly for the short-term trade. It look like it's going to compress and cross in the other direction now.

Definitely deserves some close study. Thanks!

Jeff, for my limited TA experience I usually use the interactive Java charts at Etrade but it can get kind of slow there. Is TC2000 software you can get off the net? What does it cost? I found this site that has some charting software, would this be any good?
