>>I have been looking to buy a multiple monitor card <<

There are so many good posts on multimonitors on this thread I hesitate to link you to one. So if you would go to our auxiliary
home.att.net and click on hardware and then multimonitors you will see a listing of the multimonitor posts on this thread. They are linked to the posts so you can read them. The current favorite is the Appian. If you don't want to read all of the posts you should at least read the posts by Dirk Hente.
Giambrone is using a J2 so you might want to read his posts too.
And Street Walker's and....
I don't recall a discussion on the P166 but you have come to the right place to ask.

Regards

Zeuspaul

<Has any one used either Appian Graphics Jeronimo 3 card or an
STB card?>
No, not me, too expensive. i use a dual & triple monitor setup on 2 computers sharing one internet connection.

<How do they compare? >
depends, look here siliconinvestor.com
for some ideas

<How easy is this to install and >
very easy to install, plug&play.

<can I run it on a
pentium 166?>
sure, i was running my 3 monitor setup on a 90MHZ pentium.

<One more question. Do the 2 screens have to be the same size? or can I use one 17" and a 20" monitor simultaneously? >
depends. appian, yes! for stb, i dont know, you should ask them.

for a multimonitor configuration you have 3 choices:

1. special multi mon adapter
2. multiple (standard) graphic cards & NT4.0 (not avail. for Win95)
3. multiple (standard) graphic cards & WIN 98beta3

the striking advantage of 1 is, you need only one PCI slot.
solution 2&3 offer more flexibility because you can use standard graphic cards which may have a better performance than the multi mon cards or are cheaper. but, you need one card for each monitor. unfortunately the number of pci slots is quite limited and you may run into trouble here. (this is why i use more than one comupter)
the striking advantage of solution 3 is, you can get a really 'cheap' and high performance setup. you can still use your old pci-graphic card and just add another which is supported by win98beta3. the only drawback is availability of win98beta3. you may join microsofts windows 98 consumer beta preview program for this.

a lot of things you have asked have been discussed already on this thread and Zeuspaul has done a great job to collect and organize the postings:

Answer=You can use different sized monitors.
I've used APPIAN J2 with 21",17" without problems as you can setup up different monitor config. in the DISPLAY PROPERITIES dialog box.
Its also possible to use different REFRESH RATES depending on each monitors capabilities..
