MCHP micro-controllers are in a lot more consumer products than you think. Since they bought Atmel a few years ago, even more so. I have used their chips in a lot of designs over the years. They offer low volume orders directly from the factory and their minimum order on pre-programed micro-controllers help them address the needs to small to medium size manufacturers as well as large volume customers.
