We have about 450 people in or IT department, when we saw what it would take to correct our legacy code for Y2K, we realized that it was not that difficult and we could do it much cheaper ourselves. We have had a lot of success with big mainframe projects.

We are currently behind on our client/server conversion but we will be add more people to that effort to get it done by the end of this year. I think we have about 24 people involved in Y2K, it is on our top 5 projects for this year, we started in 1996 with the assessment. We have a subroutine that all of our programs call to do date conversions, so the code is in one place and we change the programs that call it to use a new option. All of our new systems already have 4 digit years in the data base, e.g., DB2 & Sybase.

We are also contacting and or meeting with our vendors, banks, public utilities, etc., to see how they are coming along on their conversions and the impact it could have on us. We are just starting or emergency/disaster plans.
