I think we still do, but Trump has surrendered in that competition, too. Yep, Just look at the increasing number of patents China is creating. Leaving America behind at an increasing rate in all fields. Now with Trump (Musk) cutting off more and more funding for research that will only get much worse. America will rapidly become a back water in the world. Unable to compete anymore. It already can't in RE which the world is increasingly buying from China. The leader in that area.
