Interesting. I've often waited until the day of expiration and, in fact, had calls exercised (knowing that they would be) only after Friday close at Schwab. It seems awfully strange to me that you'd have to give instructions the day before. The brokers I work with at Schwab500 have discussed the rules with me, but never the day before part. I'll ask again.

Dave, your puts were in the money. Schwab did you a favor. Just buy back the stock Monday morning and keep the $500 (less commissions).

Your other choice would have been to sell the puts Friday for $15/16. To do nothing is to leave money on the table. Think about it.
