What does El Nino have to do with Cable modems, anyway?

Well it was one rainy day several weeks ago when my ISP went blank. @#$% drat that dail-up ISP! After some contemplation, I recalled scene from another rainy season -- Pac BELL trucks with cable spools were lined up at a river crossing on I-5 -- for several weeks maybe. Then I realized that my ISP's twisted pair hookups must have gotten flooded or washed out.

The lights went on, I got some ideas and put a few posts on the ASND thread, which I normally follow:

Would appreciate some further comment on the issues therein.
