Bill, I just realized that is 2.9:1 for a stripping ratio.

Time to get some reading glasses! I'm showing my age! ;-)

Rick, That is a 2.9 : 1 stripping ratio. Not a 2:9:1 ratio of three numbers.
What it means is 2.9 tons of waste rock need to be excavated to get 1 ton of ore.
That is an acceptable ratio. I understand the ground is friable and amenable to ripping(giant scraper claws) which is cheaper than blasting.
