Cisco Systems and OzEmail Interline Team on Internet
Telephony Settlement

Companies Facilitate Global Deployment of IP Gateways; Lead Development of
Settlement Interface Standard

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 23, 1998-- Cisco Systems, Inc., the worldwide leader
in networking for the Internet, and OzEmail Interline (Interline), a worldwide leader in voice over
Internet applications and services, today announced their intent to team to facilitate the global
deployment of Internet telephony gateways, roaming authentication and settlement services. The
two companies will also cooperate toward the development of a global Internet telephony settlement
standard.

According to a letter of intent signed in January 1998, the companies intend to jointly develop an
interface between Interline's Control Node and the Cisco IOS(TM) software, based on the H.323
multimedia standard. The combination of Cisco technology and Interline's routing and rating
systems will accelerate the migration of international telephony over the Internet, facilitating
lower-priced, more flexible telephony.

Interline, a joint venture between OzEmail, a major Australian Internet service provider, and
Metro, Germany's largest retailer, has developed and is operating technology that allows the
placement, routing and billing of very high-quality voice services over the Internet. This
technology enables corporations and individuals to place calls from their own IP infrastructures or
telephones and achieve major savings in international and long distance telephony.

''We are teaming with Interline to further show our commitment to the rapidly growing Internet
telephony market,'' said Kevin Kennedy, vice president and general manager of Cisco's
network-to-user business unit. ''Interline's expertise and specialized technology together with
Cisco's leadership position in the data/voice/video integration market will ensure that Cisco
continues to offer products ideally suited for this market.''

''Interline is delighted to team with Cisco and accelerate the adoption of Internet telephony,'' said
Mike Neville, chief executive officer of OzEmail Interline. ''This will allow a major reduction in
international and long distance telephone charges for all users of Cisco equipment interworking
with Interline.''
