I'll add my 2 cents..u can have a stock put to you, or called from
you at anytime, if you write the puts, or calls.

But if you buy them, the broker should have your permission to
exercise them, with the exception that if your on margins and
reach the margin limit and can not be reached the broker may sell anything, or exercise any options to bring you within margin
limits. He does not need your explicit OK..you gave him permission
when you signed the margin agreement.
