Covering up bioweapons development in Ukraine could be one of the factors. There is also the perception that having “won” the Cold War, we’re giving that victory away by failing to defeat Russia. There are many reasons why this country - and the whole world, really - are divided on this subject.

Just like we would not be happy about China - or any other potential adversary - becoming deeply involved in Venezuela or Mexico - the Russians can’t accept Ukraine becoming part of NATO.

In the end, it’s all unnecessary and very dangerous stupid nonsense. No one can threaten the US - or Russia. Or any other nuclear superpower.

PS - the end of the Cold War came as a huge surprise to the West. The Soviet population - and their ruling elites, along with the military - got tired of their stupid, inefficient system - and simply allowed it to collapse. It was a huge bloodless revolution. Maybe it was a mistake to make such a big deal about “our victory”.
