At Home Shares Rise to Record on Partnership Talks With AT&T

Redwood City, California, Feb. 23 (Bloomberg) -- At Home
Corp. shares rose as much as 14 percent to a record after the
company said it's talking to AT&T Corp. about a possible
partnership.

At Home, which offers Internet connections over cable-
television lines, rose 4 to 33 1/8 in late trading of 2.09
million, almost four times the three-month daily average.
Earlier, the shares touched 33 1/4, their highest since At Home's
initial public offering in July.

At Home Chief Executive Tom Jermoluk said Friday in an
interview that the company has held discussions with AT&T.
Jermoluk declined to disclose details.

At Home could benefit from such a partnership because it
could offer phone service to its customers in addition to
Internet access. AT&T would gain a way to offer local telephone
service through cable lines, allowing it to bypass the Baby Bells
and break into the $100 billion-a-year market.

''We know there are a lot of talks going on,'' said Ben
Bendre, an analyst with TD Securities Inc., who rates At Home
''buy.'' ''It clearly makes sense for AT&T to do a deal with At
Home.''

At Home also has talked with Time Warner Inc.'s Road Runner
unit about combining their Internet services.
