You need to re read some S.I posts of that period.

This has also been highlighted by Jeffery Sachs too, He has that right.

For example, the Georgians felt that Abkhazia was part of Georgia, (maybe with some prompting?) Prominent Russians had their Dachas there. Stalins Dacha is there !

<<Saakashvili also accused Russia of leading "terror" missions aimed at destabilizing Georgia, a reference to the killings of two Russian officers September 20 in the Kodori Gorge, a Georgian-held area of the separatist region Abkhazia.>>

Very clear at the time, Georgia claimed the "separatist region Abkhazia" as part of Georgia.

The article title itself describes what is going on:

<<"UN General Assembly: Georgian President Lights a Fire in the Bear's Den

Deirdre Tynan and Camelia-Entekhabi Fard Sep 27, 2007">>

UN General Assembly: Georgian President Lights a Fire in the Bear's Den | Eurasianet

There was a photo essay of the region showing the warn torn villages and towns in Abkhazia, and otherwise picturesque region of the world. Can't find it now as the link no longer works.

Like that wasn't going to cause any problems.
