US consumers will not be happy with less selection and higher prices.. US should have done this in 50s 60s. It is too late IMO.. Again they simply don't have the same power they had then. Period.

The land angle is interesting. I had not thought of that.

What is the US protecting the world from ? Their record post WWII is atrocious on that score. I've heard the bond story before. If it's in exchange for protection as you say it is a REALLY TOUGH SELL.. OTOH if you mean a protection racket.. could fly with weak hands. Hands that don't count. Ukraine comes to mind.. I could give your theory more cred depending upon what Putin gets in the end wrt Ukraine.
