there's also a mini-fuel cell in the works, and some capacitor technology coming down the road as well that will shrink power sources.

Just visited the PalmPilot site... those guys are so stupid they
offer lots of ways to carry the unit in daily organizers and
leather cases and what not. Don't they know that you can't
fit that stuff into one's pocket? There's even an external modem,
like that would ever sell. It "snaps" on... maybe they should
include a free forklift with each one sold...

Re: Duracell

Hmmm...it sounds like they just repackaged their Pro-Cell line of batteries. Pro-Cell is just that, a line of Duracell batteries that up to now has been targeted only at Professional users. In my experience, they have been commonly used to power numerous things on film sets, mostly power draining devices like UHF transmitters for wireless mics, mic phantom power units, portable Shure mixers, etc. I guess the power draining reality of digital cameras has created the need for these in the consumer realm. We'll see if they sell up to expectations.

The news release said they would sell for 20% more than regular Duracells. This has been the same price for Pro-Cells all along. But consumers typically will buy the cheaper among choices if they feel cost can offset the benefit of longer battery life.
