BRAINTECH ANNOUNCES CONTRACT TO INSTALL
DEMONSTRATION SYSTEM TO IMPROVE
PRINTER ASSEMBLY PROCESS FOR EPSON PORTLAND INC.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - FEBRUARY 23, 1998

Vancouver, B.C. - BrainTech Inc. announces a contract to build and install
a print quality inspection (PQI) system to improve and standardize the ink
jet printer assembly process for Epson Portland Inc (EPI). Epson has the
option to purchase an additional 11 units to automate their print quality
inspection system.

Epson Portland Inc. based in Oregon, was established in 1985 and
manufactures ink jet and dot matrix printers for North and South America.
EPI has a workforce of 1800 in Washington County and is the only
manufacturing facility for Seiko Epson Corporation of Japan in the United
States.

This is the first phase of automating Epson's printer quality inspection
process. The uniqueness of BRAINTECH's PQI solution is the expertise of
the human inspectors has been embedded in the system through the proprie
tary classifier, BrainTrona. One of the requirements of the Epson PQI is to
offer a more robust and consistent inspection system.
