**OT** Stock Split

Gary,
maybe this is a dumb questions, but anyway..
Why do stock prices go up when companies announce a split (DELL, MSFT) or when there's a rumor that they might split (MERCK).
I don't get it. Where is the value when they double the number of shares ? Ok you can buy more shares for the same money, but it's still the same percentage of share capital, the same company, the same earnings, the same future.
What am i missing ?

Jurgen

Gary, LOL. Now back to business. Anyone notice we are trading at just right below A$ND's 200 DMA, I think its at about 36 3/4?
Looking back, start of January A$ND punched through its
its 50 DMA and went from about 27 to 31 Gain of about $4. Start of Feb it punched through its 100 DMA and zipped up from 31 to about 35, Gain of another $4. Here we are staging for an assault on the 200 DMA at 36 3/4, if successful this will surely get the attention of some additional fund managers buy programs who have been holding off, and zipp A$ND up over $40 IMHO. Anyone else?
